Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Where is Texas Speech and Feeding located?

Texas Speech and Feeding of Frisco is located at 4645 Wyndham Ln. Suite #260B Frisco, TX 75033. A more detailed map can be found on our contact us page.

What are your hours of operations?

We are open weekdays, Monday through Friday and see patients from 8:30am to 7:30pm.

My child is currently getting services at school, do they also need outpatient services?

Yes, many children who qualify for school based services will also benefit from seeing an outpatient therapist. While the school therapist will work on their academic needs, the outpatient clinician will focus on skills needed for daily living and other social emotional tasks.

My child was denied school services, can they still be approved for outpatient services?

Yes, your child may still benefit from outpatient services. Schools use different standards for qualification, often requiring a more significant delay before services are provided. In contrast, outpatient therapy can address even mild deficits — helping your child get support sooner and make progress faster.

Do you offer services other than speech, language, and feeding therapy?

While we do not provide other services such as occupational or physical therapy, we do find great value in coordinating with your child’s other providers to ensure a well rounded approach to your child’s development.

Evaluation Questions

How long does an evaluation take?

For an evaluation, we typically block 90 minutes to ensure we are able to fully complete the evaluation steps and can address any questions you may have.

Can we get an evaluation without needing further services?

Yes, in some cases we find that the child is well within their developmental milestones and additional therapy services are not needed.

We have an evaluation from a different provider, do you accept that?

Insurance requires that we conduct our own evaluations. However, if you would like to provide your previous or most recent evaluations, it will allow us to benefit from those results and use different tasks to gain further insight into your child’s abilities.

Do I need a referral to receive a speech or feeding evaluation?

If your insurance is an HMO plan, then we will obtain a referral and authorization from your pediatrician. If you do not have an HMO plan, then a referral is not required; however, we do like to stay in contact with your pediatrician to keep him or her updated on your child’s progress.

Therapy Questions

How long are therapy sessions?

Therapy sessions are approximately 30 minutes long. The first 20 to 25 minutes will be going through direct skill development with your child, while the last 5 minutes will be spent going through parent education on what skills you can work on at home as well as reviewing your child’s progress.

How long should I expect my child to need therapy?

Each child’s treatment plan is individualized and based on their specific needs. A typical treatment plan recommendation is one to three visits a week until your child has met their age-appropriate milestones or the child is in need of a break from therapy.

Can your therapists come to my house?

We are not a home health agency and do not visit patients in their homes.

When is it appropriate to start therapy?

We work with children from infancy into school aged years. It is never too early to start and there are no negative side effects to our services. Please refer to our developmental milestones to see if your child is a candidate today.

When is it appropriate to end therapy?

It is typical to stop services once your child has reached their age-appropriate developmental level.  From there, we will do a six month follow up to ensure your child has continued to develop additional skills. At this time, discharge is appropriate. However, sometimes children just need a break from therapy due to decreased motivation and we can reconvene when they are ready to continue.

Do you offer teletherapy services?

Yes, we do offer teletherapy for patients that are good candidates. As long as they are able to maintain attention and are highly motivated to work hard, we can complete therapy with great outcomes!

Insurance Questions

What insurances do you accept?

Texas Speech and Feeding accepts most major commercial insurances, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, United healthcare, CIGNA and Aetna. We are also a provider for TRICARE. Please check with us for an up to date list of accepted insurance providers.

How do I know if my benefits cover speech and/or feeding therapy?

The best way to learn what your benefits are is to give us a call and we will help you through that process. If you would like to verify insurance coverage yourself, we can still provide specific codes for you to use when checking. You always want to ask for a call reference once you check with the insurance company so that you can refer back to any information they provide you.

How much does an evaluation and/or therapy session cost?

Similar to other medical services, the cost depends on what insurance plan you have and the coverage details. The cost can be anywhere from zero dollars out-of-pocket to several hundred for the evaluation and less than that for the ongoing therapy services. Contact us today to learn your specific benefits and estimated out-of-pocket.

What is the cancelation policy if I can't make it?

If you are not able to attend a scheduled therapy session for any reason, and choose to not reschedule, there will be a cancellation fee of $25.00 per session (the fee will be waived if the session is rescheduled within the same week). Visits canceled with more than 48-hours notice will not be subject to a cancellation fee. Frequent cancelled or missed sessions may result in the loss of your reserved weekly therapy time slot.
